ABOUT THE ARTWORK: "FINDING ANGELO"
In 2019, the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation held a special seminar at Jamestown Settlement honoring Angelo - the first recorded African woman in Virginia. In the backdrop of this session, the echo of Angelo's legacy came to life in real time as artist Austin Miles created an interpretive portrait of the first African woman mentioned by name in the historical record at Jamestown.
